    A Web Service Composition Method Based on OpenAPI Semantic Annotations

    Automatic Web service composition is a research direction aimed to improve the process of aggregating multiple Web services to create some new, specific functionality. The use of semantics is required as the proper semantic model with annotation standards is enabling the automation of reasoning required to solve non-trivial cases. Most previous models are limited in describing service parameters as concepts of a simple hierarchy. Our proposed method is increasing the expressiveness at the parameter level, using concept properties that define attributes expressed by name and type. Concept properties are inherited. The paper also describes how parameters are matched to create, in an automatic manner, valid compositions. Additionally, the composition algorithm is practically used on descriptions of Web services implemented by REST APIs expressed by OpenAPI specifications. Our proposal uses knowledge models (ontologies) to enhance these OpenAPI constructs with JSON-LD semantic annotations in order to obtain better compositions for involved services.     Completion gastrectomy with esophagojejunostomy for management of complications of benign foregut surgery

    Background: With the worldwide epidemic of obesity, an increasing number of bariatric operations and antireflux fundoplications are being performed. Despite low morbidity of the primary foregut surgery, completion gastrectomy may be necessary as a definitive procedure for complications of prior foregut surgery; however, the literature evaluating outcomes after completion gastrectomy with esophagojejunostomy (EJ) for benign diseases is limited. We present our experience of completion gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y EJ in the setting of benign disease at a single tertiary center. Methods and Procedures: All patients who underwent total, proximal, or completion gastrectomy with EJ for complications of benign foregut surgery from January 2006 to December 2015 were retrospectively identified. All cancer operations were excluded. Results: There were 23 patients who underwent gastrectomy with EJ (13 laparoscopic EJ [LEJ] and 10 open EJ). The index operations included 12 antireflux, 9 bariatric, and 2 peptic ulcer disease surgeries. Seventy-eight percent of patients had surgical or endoscopic interventions before EJ, with a median of one prior intervention and a median interval from the index operation to EJ of 25 months (interquartile range 9–87). The 30-day perioperative complication rate was 30% with 17% classified being major (Clavien–Dindo ≥ III) and no 30-day perioperative mortality. Comparing laparoscopic and open approaches showed similar operative times, estimated blood loss, and overall complication rate. LEJ was associated with a shorter length of stay (LOS) (P < .001), fewer postoperative ICU days (P = .002), fewer 6-month complication rates (P < .007), and decreased readmission rate (P = .024). Conclusion: Our series demonstrates that EJ is a reasonable option for reoperative foregut surgery. The laparoscopic approach appears to be associated with decreased LOS and readmissions

    ACOUSTIC CROSS-OVER BETWEEN THE EARS IN MICE (Mus musculus) DETERMINED USING A NOVEL ABR BASED BIO-ASSAY

    ABSTRACT Closed-field stimulation of one ear, at high sound intensity, will activate both ears because of bone/soft tissue transmission of the acoustic signal across the skull. In human psychophysics and in clinical audiometry a knowledge of interaural attenuation values is important, particularly when assessing asymmetrical hearing loss or in studies of monaural hearing. Similarly, in testing monaural hearing in experimental animal studies, acoustic cross-over can result in erroneous conclusions about hearing function. The mouse has become a widely used animal model for various types of hearing loss, especially those relating to gene mutations, and also for age related deafness (presbycusis). In the present study we have measured acoustic cross-over in this species using a novel bio-assay technique based on auditory brainstem evoked responses (ABR).     From Expert Discipline to Common Practice: A Vision and Research Agenda for Extending the Reach of Enterprise Modeling

    The benefits of enterprise modeling (EM) and its contribution to organizational tasks are largely undisputed in business and information systems engineering. EM as a discipline has been around for several decades but is typically performed by a limited number of people in organizations with an affinity to modeling. What is captured in models is only a fragment of what ought to be captured. Thus, this research note argues that EM is far from its maximum potential. Many people develop some kind of model in their local practice without thinking about it consciously. Exploiting the potential of this “grass roots modeling” could lead to groundbreaking innovations. The aim is to investigate integration of the established practices of modeling with local practices of creating and using model-like artifacts of relevance for the overall organization. The paper develops a vision for extending the reach of EM, identifies research areas contributing to the vision and proposes elements of a future research Agenda

    This paper summarises the lessons and experiences gained from a case study of the application of semantic web technologies to the integration of data from the bacterial species Francisella tularensis novicida (Fn). Fn data sources are disparate and heterogeneous, as multiple laboratories across the world, using multiple technologies, perform experiments to understand the mechanism of virulence. It is hard to integrate these data sources in a flexible manner that allows new experimental data to be added and compared when required
